The disappearance of children is an increasing concern that affects our society as a whole. Thus, missing children are detrimental to our community, as they represent a malfunctioning system that renders us defenseless and skeptical about what lies ahead. All missing children cases are concerning, but some have been so extreme that they’ve astonished the global population.

200+ missing children in the UK

Over 200 children seeking asylum in Britain were discovered to be missing from government custody, which has caused a stir and prompted NGOs to demand an end to the practice of putting unaccompanied minors in hotels.

The children who arrived in Britain via boats were temporarily placed in hotels, where they seem to have vanished. The public and government officials are horrified by these events, and that they discovered this after more than 200+ teenagers had gone missing. The Home Office and Children’s Commissioner in England are working on locating the boys and providing a solution to the overflow of immigrant children the UK receives.

Chibok schoolgirls kidnapping

The Chibok schoolgirls kidnapping is one of the most tragic events in recent years. It was an act of terror that shook the world, as 276 schoolgirls were abducted from their school in Chibok, Nigeria, on April 14th, 2014. Islamist militant organization Boko Haram claimed to be the kidnapper.

57 girls were freed within hours of their kidnapping, mostly by jumping off the lorries and running into the bushes. The first girl was not discovered until May 2016. Over time, a few other people have also succeeded in escaping.

103 of the victims were released between 2016 and 2018 due to agreements between the terrorists and the Nigerian government. However,  the campaign group Bring Back Our Girls says around 100 are still missing.

Madeleine McCann
